Snobbery and Inverted Snobbery

A person with an exaggerated respect for high social position or wealth who seeks to associate with social superiors and looks down on those regarded as socially inferior:
e.g. “Her mother was a snob and wanted a lawyer as a son-in-law.”

INVERTED SNOBBERY: The attitude of seeming to despise anything associated with wealth or social status, while at the same time elevating those things associated with lack of wealth and social position.
