WHAT GOOD IS GRATITUDE?

From a friend I learned to say, for example in shops, “Thanks for you help.”

Thanking people who have helped, whether they are employed to do that or not, is one powerful way to enhance your commitment to being grateful, and being grateful is one way to enhance your being!

Gratitude can help change your outer environment a little but more importantly it enhances the way we read our ‘self’ as well as how we read what we call the ‘world out there’.

This is now opening up to research inquiry. Here is a short version by Robert Emmons, Prof of Psychology at UC Davis in the US;

1 G allows celebration of the present?
2 G Blocks toxic emotions (envy, resentment, regret, depression)
3 G people are more stress-resilient
4 G strengthens social ties and self-worth

Fascinating If you want a bit more from Prof Emmons here is a longer version:

‘Gratitude Works!: The Science and Practice of Saying Thanks [Robert Emmons]

Robert Emmons (Professor of Psychology, UC Davis) explains how gratitude can heal, energize, and change human lives, with reference to recent empirical psychological research.’

“All blessings are divine in origin

“All blessings are divine in origin, but none can be compared with this power of intellectual investigation and research, which is an eternal gift producing fruits of unending delight.”

Upon waking each day My first words to my heart always are “Tell me all your news of Love.” – Hafiz

Upon waking each day
My first words to my heart always are
“Tell me all your news of Love.”

Hafiz

We are a couple of barroom sailors

I wake from a nap
And the same clear words greet my mind
That I say every day upon waking,

“Where can I find the Friend?”

I eat and dress and labor
For only one reason.

But why explain about the essential today
And demean the holy?

We are a couple of barroom sailors,
Marooned,

In need of good drink and fine company
To true our perceptions.

Otherwise,
I get a tad concerned about that odd look
That sometimes creeps into your eyes–

That seems to mistake me for a pretty,
Available mermaid.

Upon waking each day
My first words to my heart always are

“Tell me all your news of
Love.”
