DEFINITIONS for ‘One Garden’ Our mission = healing…

DEFINITIONS for ‘One Garden’ :
Our mission = healing wisdom for greater happiness & peace

“I cannot then believe in this concept of an anthropomorphic God who has the powers of interfering with these natural laws. …. the most beautiful & most profound religious emotion that we can experience is the sensation of the mystical. And this mysticality is the power of all true science.” HERE p86 The Private Albert Einstein -Bucky.
“Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind.” A Einstein

SCIENCE (reason) : = discovered truth – knowledge brought from potential state & manifested into reality, & applicability (technology), via reason & the rules, principles & methods of scientific investigation – measuring, analyzing, replicability etc.

RELIGION (heart) : = revealed truth. a) by ‘Messengers of God’ – but also b) by you and me since “the heart is the set of revelation”. Religious progress is also a matter of the potential becoming manifest. The Messengers of God like great scientists are paradigm shifters (see K Wilber WikiPedia). Corruption requires renewals.

REALITY is one. If science & religion disagree – we have superstition or incomplete science.

SPIRIT: – Energy. Chi. XIn = heart-mind. It holds the parts into a whole. “If it isn’t physical it’s spiritual.” MATTER also = energy (or spirit).

Spirit = the Whole – all matter + all forces – systems & process of holons e.g. atom-cell-liver-human-up to infinite Whole (like Russian dolls). Wilber’s ‘chain’ diagram shows various levels of spiritual reality – each with distinguishing characteristics. The mineral level (cohesion), the plant level (growth), the animal level (mobility), the human level (reason etc). Above the level of reason there is only one kind of experience – the stillness & silence of sensing the Whole – which requires our ego volume be turned right down. We make of these experiences what we will. For RP Whole = sensing ‘God’/HS – i.e the rays not the Sun – not the infinite God-head.

BECAUSE WE ARE HUMAN WE ARE: Creators, Critical, & Caring – in Community. This means at the amateur level we are artists, philosopher-scientists, agents of growth & healing (carers) – and if we choose to turn the mirror of our hearts to reflect & live the ‘names & attributes’ of God we are mystics.

MYSTICISM: = a) experientially = experience of the Whole b) academically = study of mystics/writings. WikiPedia – the pursuit of communion with, identity with, or conscious awareness of an ultimate reality, divinity, spiritual truth, or God through direct experience, intuition, instinct or insight. Mysticism usually centers on practices intended to nurture those experiences. Mysticism may be dualistic, maintaining a distinction between the self and the divine, or may be nondualistic.[1]

MYSTIC: someone who has spiritual experiences – and notices them. Noticing them might because of their intensity or because s/he has simply raised their consciousness – sufficiently to see beyond the world of names, the world of appearances. Consider idiom/folk-language ‘it took me out of myself’

MYSTICAL EXPERIENCE: = encounters of the Whole – in which we step out of time losing the sense of time & self, in favour of the Whole of which in time we are an infinitesimal part – drop-ocean-drop.

Mystical i.e spiritual experiences are characterised by all or some of the following feelings/insights; 1) A sense of unity or totality, 2) A sense of timelessness, 3) A sense of having encountered ‘ultimate reality’ (RP = ie “God” but not the God-head i.e. the finite cannot comprehend the in-finite), 4) A sense of sacredness, 5) A sense that one can not adequately describe the richness of this experience (ineffable). Bliss. NB Most such experiences last a few seconds or up to a few days.

SOUL: individualized human spirit. Spirit put aside for a purpose e.g being you – or a tree, bird etc. According to WikiPedia Soul can function as a synonym for spirit, mind, psyche (cons & unconscious) or self – now you know why I say “first define your terms”

MIND: part of our Interior landscape – with its set of cognitive faculties that enables consciousness, perception, thinking, judgement, and memory. Here I suggest that heart-mind = interiority that combines mind & feelings.

OUR LIVES = 2 wings/states – a) the stillness of connection with the Whole/Mystery &
b) the dualities of thought etc.
Wing a) = The Mystical/Spiritual non-dual ‘encounters’, relatively no-self &
Wing b) = accounts & living of encounters (perennial philosophy) + the laundry
a) = Encounters (of the Whole) supported by centring & grounding via stillness, meditation, prayer, mantras etc
b) = dualistic reflections on & of encounters (perennial wisdom/philos). i.e. Mind stuff + senses & inter-action in world.
In wing a) we are in state of awe, wonderment, bliss i.e. non-dual. In Wing b) we dualistically say ‘I wonder’ Together = Awaken:Detach:Serve via the 2 states of being.

“The birds have vanished from the sky,/and now the last clouds slip away.
We sit alone, the mountain and I,/until only the mountain remains.” 8thC Chinese poet Li Po;

NOTES Science is evolving & very young. 98 % of everything that was ever invented was invented in the last 200 years – mainly the 20ThC. Mysticism & The Great Chain of Being PP is unchanging – the same for millennia. The non-mystical world = change.
PRACTICE MATTERS: “Smile:Breathe:Go mindfully.”

Meditation is a systematic way of making…

“Meditation is a systematic way of making our mind quiet so that we can contact our true identity -self, which is the source of everlasting joy, bliss and peace.”

Some other definition s which we can relate to self/Self

“Meditation is a state of choiceless awareness.”

“Meditation is a state of no-mind.”

“Meditation is a state of once being when once true self is revealed to him/her”

“The state of awareness when mind cease to exist is meditation.”

“Whenever you are relaxed, when your mind is quite and observant, when you are not reflexively engaged in any thought – you are meditating”

“Meditation is not thinking about anything. It is not contemplation. It is not concentration. In fact, it is actually a process of thought removal.”

It is the duty of Christians now…

It is “the duty of Christians now to draw from the rich heritage of the East the elements compatible with their faith in order to enrich Christian thought. The Church of the future will judge herself enriched by all that comes from today’s engagement with Eastern cultures and will find in this inheritance fresh cues for fruitful dialogue with the cultures which will emerge as humanity moves into the future.”
John Paul II in his Encyclical on Faith and Reason.

Pope Benedict in his interfaith meeting during his visit to the USA, after naming the dialogue of truth on the deeper questions of human life as the higher goal of interreligious dialogue, declared that;

“the ardent desire to follow in Christ’s footsteps spurs Christians to open their minds and hearts in dialogue”

he concluded with these words:

“By giving ourselves generously to this sacred task- through dialogue and countless acts of love , understanding and compassion – we can be instruments of peace for the whole human family.”

“Meditation is the only intentional, systematic human activity which at bottom is about not trying to improve yourself or get anywhere else, but simply to realize where you already are.”
